This calligraphy presents “Deer Enclosure” (Lu Chai) by the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei:

In the empty mountains no one is seen. Yet echoes of voices can be heard. Reflected sunlight enters the deep forest. And shines again upon the green moss.

The poem captures the quiet solitude of mountain scenery. Through subtle contrasts of sound and silence, light and shadow, Wang Wei creates a serene and contemplative atmosphere characteristic of his landscape poetry. Written in running script (Xingshu), the brushwork is restrained yet fluid. Variations of ink tone and spacious composition echo the poem’s calm, meditative spirit.
